Do you have an email list? If you are an internet marketer you probably have an email list and why not use it to build your Twitter list and the other way around?

Lots of people are using Twitter to build their email list, posting links to pages with opt-ins. I would not recommend you to post links to pages just with an opt-in or a sales letter. It’s much better to link to content and ask visitors to opt-in for even more content on the same subject.

You should strive to have your followers on your email list as well as followers on Twitter.

Why is that?

If someone opts out from your email list you can still reach them through twitter,if they change their email list you can still reach them on Twitter and if your mail ends up in a spam filter you can still reach them through Twitter.

Even more importantly…

If they stay on your email list and is on your twitter list you have two ways and two medias to reach them and to convert them into buyers of your offers.

You should always have a good reason to send an email. Why not use the eastern holiday and send a holiday greeting to your list, at the end of the email ask people to follow you on twitter.

Follow up on that email the next day and say you are testing out Twitter and that you want them as followers and that you will follow them in return.

Finally

Edit your autoresponder messages and include your twitter name in the signature (in Aweber you find this below MyList/GlobalFields). Remember to ask them to follow.

If you have a large email list leveraging the list to gain followers is the fastest way to grow your Twitter account. It’s also a great strategy to secure your list and increase your conversion rates.
