For people who are not already into Twitter the whole thing can seem a bit pointless. Is that you? Here is a list of different ways you can use the twitter service, some of these are taken from the book Twitter power by Joel Comm while others are my my own. Use a twitter account as a notebook for yourself

Use Twitter for team communication
Especially if you have virtual teams scattered in different locations, like outsource partners.

Use Twitter to drive visitors to your web site
Use Twitter to let your visitors know when you add something to your web site.

Use Twitter to drive followers to your mall
You can sell things on Twitter, just make sure its not the only thing you do and that its not spammy.

Use Twitter to help build your brand
Everything you tweet will build your brand in some way. Be consistent and provide valuable information.

Use Twitter to get followers to register to a service
Use twitter to sell right away. Do be careful not to only sell, that will hurt your brand and not be effective.

Use Twitter to build your list
Give away free things through opt-ins to build your email list from your Twitter followers.

Use Twitter to research trends
Twitter has great tools to see what keywords are exploding on the Internet right now.

Use Twitter to track results and testing strategies
Polls for your followers, ask direct questions and use it as a research tool. Involving your followers will also help to build a relation with them.

Use Twitter as a public service tool
Public services like a local police station can use Twitter to keep the community informed of what is happening.

Use Twitter as a support tool
Create an account just to keep users updated on for example software updates and server maintenance.
