Hashtags (#) are good for grouping your tweets and with the introduction of twitter search and other similar services your are going to se more and more people using hashtags in their posts.

You can invent your own hashtags. A better idea is to use already used hashtags when possible. This will allow you to leverage users that are already following a hashtag. What the hashtag is a wiki site listing hashtags that are used on Twiter. You can search directly to find out what a specific tag is all about, a good idea before you use it yourself if you are not sure.

http://hashtags.org/ is constantly updated with the currently most popular hashtags. The service is similar to yahoo buzz but for Twitter posts. If you click on one of the hashtags you will get a list of recent posts on that subject. You can also use it as a search engine and search for hashtags. Using hashtags.org in this is great for keeping up on hot topics but also if you need inspiration for articles, just do a search on your keyword.

Don’t #hashtag every one of your tweets. After a while, your topics will be ignored and you will loose followers.

When you are writing on a subject consider to use a hashtags to get more readers than just your followers.
