Facebook LIKING its friendfeed features-Now at a site near you
On the 3rd f8 conference the friendfeed feature of liking is introduced full out at the same time as the Fan concept is removed from facebook.
Fan becomes Like
Facebook says that the wording of “Like” has less resistance to users since it is more light-weight than becoming a fan of a topic, page or thing. I agree on this and the high usage of Like for Status and images I see among my friends is a good indication that this a smart move.
But this is not all, at the same time, Facebook is launchin a series of “social plugins. The plugins open up for better facebook integration on external sites. For starters Facebook has partnered up with a few sites to enable Like buttons and Recommend buttons. This is part of the extension to the facebook platform that has been talked about for a while and is creating ripples all over the Internet at the moment.
Below is a list that I found on Facebook FAQ. Most likely this list of partners will expand over the coming months.
NYTimes.com
IMDb.com
CNN.com
TIME.com
LIFE.com
Fandango
NHL.com
USA Networks
Levis.com
Univision
ABC.com
It is easy to see the monetizing value for Facebook on this feature and it will be interesting to see how the facebook users will react to this move into the realm of social bookmarking.
Liking examples
Examples that facebook mentions is clicking the liking button on a pair of Levis jeans or liking a move on IMDB. You always have the option to unlike stuff you have added but frankly, who does this.
Here are some more resources on the new Facebook liking feature.
