Twitter is growing rapidly. It’s the social site where you let people know how and what you are doing by writing 140 characters short messages called tweets.

On Twitter only people who follow you will see what you post. So, the key to getting traffic from Twitter is;
Getting followers
Get other Twitter users to post your links
Get your followers to use the repost function on your tweets

To get followers to your Twitter account and to get your readers to read your posts you should post frequently and consistently around a focused subject. If you use Twitter for totally separate things, get several accounts and use each of accounts for one subject area.

To be followed you need to follow other twitters in your subject area so that you are seen. Make a search on Twitters new search page and find who to follow.

Pay attention to happenings like twestival when they come along, maybe there is an opening for your niche in some events.

Post quality content and avoid spam. Many Twitter users write stuff that is really not of interest for anyone. If you are not a celebrity, don’t do it, you’ll lose followers and your followers will be less likely to follow your links.

When you post to make people write a blog post, tweet the title of the blog post together with the direct url. If possible use the full url but if the Twitter character limit is a problem you can use a free service to shorten the url like http://www.bit.ly/

To get people to follow you sign your blog posts with your twitter id and simply ask people to follow you.

Add a twitter button to your blog posts to make it easy for you visitors to tell their followers about your site; http://www.twitthis.com/
