Spring reaches Stockholm as well, finally! This weekend has been all about being outdoors, playing with my daughter, walking the dog and enjoying the warmth of the sun. This has been the longest winter in a very long time and the massive piles of snow are still not gone even though the sun is working on that right now.

It is funny to watch how my fellow Swedes brightens up as the snow melts away. During winter it is almost like the population is reduced by 50%, I met very few people during my dog walking this winter. But now, when the warmth has returned the people return as well and I see smiling, lightly dressed people everywhere I go.

Finally!

Twitter is claiming the value of www.twitter.com by making better use of the page for users not logged in. They have recently changed the screen to be more dynamically updated. It features things like Top Tweets, Trending topics and a section of Top sources(named See who’s here).

I think by taking this step Twitter does what every decent seo knowledgeable person would tell them to do and that is to reuse the best content they have. The side effect of this is that all of a sudden there is a tweet value or tweet currency if you will decided by a secret algorithm that only Twitter knows(does this sound familiar to you?)

So here is a SEO challenge for April:
Break the algorithm of getting on the front page of Twitter.

Looking at a black sky with no stars and no moon I wonder why I haven’t booked my usual vacation to the sun yet.
I cant see the clouds but I know the gray, thick massive carpet is there since this has been the weather the last week. The Weather channel for real said that we will have several rains a day and in between that it will rain. November in Sweden is a dark period.

Luckily that gives me time to concentrate on work.

Anyone wants 5 new useful Twitter resources?

Here are the new sites added in the September update of my Twitter fact sheet. If you want the complete fact sheet you can download it for free from here :

Mr Tweet is a tool that helps you find great people and followers relevant to your interests. The service is still in beta but they already have an api and a Mozilla browser plug-in. Among other things Mr.Tweet uses recommendations to suggest people you might find interesting. You can give and receive recommendations through the service.

Twitter feed, , is a service that lets you autopost your tweets from one or more rss feeds, typically your blogs. Might be used to automate your twittering to some degree, I do not use this service personally but combined with for example yahoo pipes it has lots of potential.

Tweetbrain is a service that allows you to use Twitter to get answers to your questions. You can also use it as a tool to promote yourself in the twitter sphere and answer other peoples questions.

Twitter grader gives your twitter account a score. This one is useful to make sure you haven’t forgotten any of the basics. That could cost you lots and lots of followers

Finally Tweeteffect lets you monitor you following count after each of your tweets. It’s interesting to see which tweets caused you to gain or lose followers. Just remember that you must have quite a few followers for the numbers to be significant and that it might be hard to compare numbers over time since you most likely grown your number of followers over time.

Regardless it gives you a good idea of what works for your crowd on Twitter.

Twitter is more than just SMS for the Internet.
There are many details you need to know of if you want to get the most out of your twittering, and recently there are also lots of ways you can get ripped off.

If you have been on Twitter for a while you have probably already got plenty of messages on how to get lots of followers, and on how to make lots of money using Twitter.

The make money stuff is basically all based on having lots of followers and sending them affiliate offers. Well, what they tell you might work if you do have the followers. And, regardless of how you use Twitter its always nice to have someone listening to you.

So, how to get the followers? I have looked at several of these products and the truth is that most of these ebooks are just a collection of good free resources.

Then there are lots of software you can buy to get hundreds of followers to your account automatically, also known as a great way to get your account suspended, so lets just forget about that.

A few months ago I compiled a fact sheet with what I think are the best free current twitter resources (that I know of…).

Today I updated that pdf document, its now 2 pages. I guess it still counts as a sheet if you print it on double sided paper.

I cant say it presented a problem a few years back, when Twitter, facebook and social media was still to explode somewhere in the future, but 2009 the four week long summer vacation, typical in Sweden, presents a challenge. It is a luxury and I count myself very lucky to be faced with this problem.

Mobile twittering, how to get started?

If you have the right phone it is simple task, and might even be really enjoyable. With a simpler device you always have the browse and tweet option at m.twitter.com or one of the following mobile sites.

For people who are not already into Twitter the whole thing can seem a bit pointless. Is that you? Here is a list of different ways you can use the twitter service, some of these are taken from the book Twitter power by Joel Comm while others are my my own. Get his book for a more in-depth discussion on some of these ideas.

Use Twitter to drive readers to your blog.
Update your followers on each post you make, there are plug-ins you can use to automate this.

Use Twitter as a resource to post your own ideas
Use a twitter account as a notebook for yourself

Use Twitter for team communication
Especially if you have virtual teams scattered in different locations, like outsource partners.

Use Twitter to drive visitors to your web site
Use Twitter to let your visitors know when you add something to your web site.

Use Twitter to drive followers to your mall
You can sell things on Twitter, just make sure its not the only thing you do and that its not spammy.

Use Twitter to help build your brand
Everything you tweet will build your brand in some way. Be consistent and provide valuable information.

Use Twitter to get followers to register to a service
Use twitter to sell right away. Do be careful not to only sell, that will hurt your brand and not be effective.

Use Twitter to build your list
Give away free things through opt-ins to build your email list from your Twitter followers.

Use Twitter to research trends
Twitter has great tools to see what keywords are exploding on the Internet right now.

Use Twitter to track results and testing strategies
Polls for your followers, ask direct questions and use it as a research tool. Involving your followers will also help to build a relation with them.

Use Twitter as a public service tool
Public services like a local police station can use Twitter to keep the community informed of what is happening.

Use Twitter as a support tool
Create an account just to keep users updated on for example software updates and server maintenance.

Use Twitter to socialize and have fun

Does video and Twitter marry well? Off course it does and the services Twitmatic and Twiddeo proves it brilliantly.

Twitmatic
This service take the Twitter chaos and distill it to an easy to search video-on-twitter smorgasboard.

Enter a search word and all the tweets with video-links on twitter pop up in a list where you easy can watch the clips in a youtube manner.

So why is this important to us. Well, this opens up Twitter for building a value over a longer time. Use a good description text in your tweet and search services like this can make your keywords useful in the Twitter world.

Twiddeo
This is a simple to use service giving you a one point service to tweet with videos. Twiddeo features uploads via web, email and mobile. If you have a camera connected on your computer you also get a direct interface for recording and tweeting in a very easy manner.

I know everybody knows video is important, I am just happy to share another good way to use that fact.
