When Facebook introduced the Like button they changed the way sites interacts with Facebook once again, and in a very positive way.

The “Like” feature is becoming an important part of every sites SEO infrastructure and with the comes off course pages on facebook that needs to be updated and kept fresh.

The light-weight like button is LIKEely(sorry:-) much easier for users to click than the traditional “becoming a fan”.

It is easy to see the monetizing value for Facebook on this feature and it will be interesting to see how the facebook ad system is affected by this move and what Google will do to counterstrike.

I wonder when we pass the line and say that having “Like” button is a must and part of fundamental basic SEO?

Being big fan of all that is mobile(Sweden and Stockholm is very much Ericsson country) I followed Googles I/O conference closely and I am glad that the Apple VS Google war is heating up. I think we will soon see the mobile world affecting the way we think about SEO on the web. More on this later, I just need to think and analyse a bit more.

In February Google launched Google buzz. This is an attempt on taking a bite of the Social Media cake that is worth a lot if you use eyeballs as currency. Knowing Google they will succeed and they have been on the outside of Social Media Marketing despite their success in other online marketing.

With one liners like:
1.Publish your ideas to the world or just to your closest friends.
2.Import your stuff from Twitter, Picasa, Flickr, and Google Reader.
3.New posts and comments pop in as they happen. No refresh required.
4.Buzz recommends interesting posts and weeds out ones you’re likely to skip.
5.Android

and millions of users in different communities already, Google Buzz will affect the way messages move across cyberspace.

What do think?

A:Will the Search Engine ResultPage(SERP) be affected?

B:Will there be a Banner ad business for Buzz?

C:Will it be the breakthrough of mobile advertisement and Location based ads?

Spill your mind and still my mind…………I will elaborate on these questions in the next post…..

Getting the first comment on your blog post is what’s required to get a conversion started and it will get you more traffic.

But it can be hard

If you don’t get that first comment in a reasonable time you will probably never get any comments at all. When a visitor reads an old post with no comments he is to be reluctant to be the first one to comment. It’s a bit like a shop that has no visitors. It’s hard work to get the first customer in the door but when you have people in the store that in itself will cause more people to come.

But that’s still not the real reason you want comments.

Comments counts as content for the search engines. The search engines sees a comment added to a page as if the page has been updated with more content ie it has higher value.

Constantly updated pages are going to get more frequent visits by the search engine spiders and are probably going to rank higher in the results. Even if a search engine actually can’t tell it sees new comments it does make sense. A page that is constantly getting more and more added information is relevant and probably up to date.

Btw, did you know that Google does have a human department helping with ranking web pages, its not all just done by computers?

Your signature on the comment

Adding relevant comments on relevant blogs is a source of traffic for you as well when you are allowed to leave your url. People are going to check out your comment and depending on how the blog is setup your link might even count as a backlink.

Yesterday I finished an update to the Site-Hype software that adds blog commenting. We are still giving away free site-hype accounts at our home page so give it a try if you haven’t signed up already. To use the blog commenting enter a user name on the socials page. The user name should be the one you are going to use when you are doing blog commenting for other users. Then when you submit the next time in the program make sure to check the “blog commenting box”

Yesterday Google added a new gadget to iGoogle for social voting similar to Digg and Propeller.

iGoogle is the customizable version of the Google start page. You can access iGoogle directly here and you can also set it as your default Google start page.

Add googles digg like widget

You can then customize your iGoogle start page from a range of widgets all listed in an easy to use gallery, nothing new with this. The iGoogle service has been available for years but what is new is the new Digg style widget.

You can find the new Digg style widget here:

The widget lets you vote for popular URLs right on your Google start page.
I am quite sure this widget will find a huge number of users in just a few days. Mostly because this is from Google and it will have good exposure right away. Many people, me included, also expect it to influence search results in the future so it’s probably a good idea to get yourself exposed in the lists as quickly as possible.

You submit a new URL by entering the url directly in the gadget and you can do your voting there as well.

igoogle whats popular

When you have installed the widget you see a front page with the currently top voted stories. You have one tab listing your votes and one tab listing what URLs you have added.

It will be very interesting to see what Google is going to do with this and if this is going to have any impact on the search results returned by Google. This might also just be a move to acquire one of the major social media sites, only time will tell.

Just a few days ago Google released a new way to surf the web using a timeline as the key point.

Google News Timeline allows you to get an historical dimension on your search results. You can search in data sources like news, scanned newspapers and magazines, blog posts, sport scores and media like music and movies.

You can navigate through a smooth timeline. Just drag the timeline forward or backward through time to show the matching results. There is a zoom possibility as well just in case you want a better overview than on a per day basis.

This is an interesting view over the ever increasing amount of information available to us. I am sure many are interested in seeing how their topics have evolved over time. Just for fun, surf the timeline for your country or for your president or your favorite team. I ended up spending 30 minutes on the buildings of New York.

Already Google seem to have lots of content available in Timeline but they need to make it a bit easier to navigate. As always I am curios about how this line of thinking can be incorporated into google maps or other google services but foremost how they will monetize it, anybody have an idea?
