Digg – The old sport

Using Digg as a billboard for your message and receiving tons of visitors when your post goes viral is a fun sport to some people.

Others consider it work and charge big bucks for a post at Digg that really fly.

The 28 millions visits each month spells lots of potential visitors to your site, all you need to know is what buttons to push.

When you are at the end of the week I recommend you examine 3 stories that have over 200 diggs. What category is it? What title? What are the comments? How would this fit into your niche and your style of writing?

Learn what takes off with Digg

iGoogle is the customizable version of the Google start page. You can access iGoogle directly here and you can also set it as your default Google start page.

Add googles digg like widget

You can then customize your iGoogle start page from a range of widgets all listed in an easy to use gallery, nothing new with this. The iGoogle service has been available for years but what is new is the new Digg style widget.

The widget lets you vote for popular URLs right on your Google start page.
I am quite sure this widget will find a huge number of users in just a few days. Mostly because this is from Google and it will have good exposure right away. Many people, me included, also expect it to influence search results in the future so it’s probably a good idea to get yourself exposed in the lists as quickly as possible.

You submit a new URL by entering the url directly in the gadget and you can do your voting there as well.

When you have installed the widget you see a front page with the currently top voted stories. You have one tab listing your votes and one tab listing what URLs you have added.

It will be very interesting to see what Google is going to do with this and if this is going to have any impact on the search results returned by Google. This might also just be a move to acquire one of the major social media sites, only time will tell.

Don’t miss the boat on Googles new digg like social service

It allows you to digg directly from the site you are visiting, just by clicking the bookmarklet.

This creates an easy to share short URL (http://digg.com/u1b1) and the options to share the URL in facebook, Twitter and email.

For a site that is not yet submitted to Digg you get the option to do so.

For a site that is already in digg you get the digg information you need and the possibility to read comments, find related stories and find stories submitted fr the same site.

And similar to Stumbleupon, if you press the random button, you are taken to a story that someone else have submitted.

A nice feature that digg is sharing with us is that you dont need the bookmarklet at all. Just write digg.com/ in front of the URL in your browser and all of the above functionality is loaded. Try it out know, on this site.
